What a summer!

We have been blessed with fine weather and great crowds for our Brown Bag Concerts. Record numbers of children are reading this summer. More records are being set for the number of checkouts and visitors. The media, especially KVOE, the Emporia Gazette, and The Shopper, have been most helpful in getting the word out about library activities and services. What more could a librarian ask!!

Please note that the library will be closed on Friday, August 4 for building maintenance and staff development. We want both our facility and our staff to be in tip-top shape. Because the library is open 7 days a week during the entire year, it is difficult to schedule such routine tasks as carpet cleaning. Being closed allows for some time to dry the carpeting, and to undertake housekeeping and maintenance work that can’t be done when we are open. We appreciate Ed Rathke and the city facilities crew who work with us on building and grounds.

Staff training is also hard to do when open 68 hours each week, so we will use August 4 to work on key library issues and projects. We are never done learning!

We hope that you continue reading and learning this summer.
